gets uranium from Australia, Canada, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Uzbekistan. U-235 makes up less than one percent of the uranium in the world.Īlthough some of the uranium the United States uses is mined in this country, most is imported. However, the specific type of uranium used to produce nuclear energy, called U-235, is rare. Uranium is also a very common element, found in rocks all over the world. That's because uranium atoms split apart relatively easily. Nuclear Food: Uranium Uranium is the fuel most widely used to produce nuclear energy. Nations such as Lithuania, France, and Slovakia create almost all of their electricity from nuclear power plants. The United States has more than 100 reactors, although it creates most of its electricity from fossil fuels and hydroelectric energy. As of 2011, about 15 percent of the world's electricity is generated by nuclear power plants. Removing the rods will allow a stronger chain reaction and create more electricity. The more rods of nuclear poison that are present during the chain reaction, the slower and more controlled the reaction will be. Nuclear poisons are materials, such as a type of the element xenon, that absorb some of the fission products created by nuclear fission. Rods of material called nuclear poison can adjust how much electricity is produced. The turbines drive generators, or engines that create electricity. The steam turns turbines, or wheels turned by a flowing current. The cooling agent, heated by nuclear fission, produces steam. A cooling agent is usually water, but some nuclear reactors use liquid metal or molten salt. The heat created by nuclear fission warms the reactor's cooling agent. The energy released from this chain reaction creates heat. Fission products cause other uranium atoms to split, starting a chain reaction. As they split, the atoms release tiny particles called fission products. In a nuclear reactor, atoms of uranium are forced to break apart. The fuel that nuclear reactors use to produce nuclear fission is pellets of the element uranium. A nuclear reactor, or power plant, is a series of machines that can control nuclear fission to produce electricity. In the process of nuclear fission, atoms are split to release that energy. In fact, the power that holds the nucleus together is officially called the " strong force." Nuclear energy can be used to create electricity, but it must first be released from the atom. There is a huge amount of energy in an atom's dense nucleus. Atoms are tiny units that make up all matter in the universe, and energy is what holds the nucleus together. Nuclear energy is the energy in the nucleus, or core, of an atom.

The packages can be easily installed by adding the btsync repository and then installing as usual: In addition, there are armhf and armel packages for wheezy (usable also with raspbian) and armel packages for squeeze. Or if you want to install it on a server (with no graphical interface) use:ĭebian : Currently there are packages available for Debian squeeze, wheezy and sid supporting both i386 and amd64. Sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tuxpoldo/btsyncĪfter this you can install one of the 2 packages, If you want to install it on a desktop use: Ubuntu : There is a PPA available for Ubuntu, so you can easily install the software adding it via the commands: tar.gz file (just click on the big red “Download” button and choose your Linux architecture) that contains the software, as alternative for some distributions it’s available a package in their specific format:ĪrchLinux : The package it’s available via AUR, so if you have already configured this repository you can install it via the command: By default it creates and stores all the old copies of edited files for the period of 30 days Installation Versioning – BitTorrent Sync supports versioning starting from version 1.1.16. That’s why using a secret generated by BitTorrent Sync is very safe and secure. This authentication approach is significantly stronger than a login/password combination used by other services. BitTorrent Sync uses /dev/random (Mac, Linux) and the Crypto API (Windows) in order to produce a completely random string. It is Base32-encoded in order to be readable by humans. Secret – The secret is a randomly generated 20-byte key. Modification requests are all verified using Ed25519 signatures and only systems with full access keys can generate valid modification requests. All traffic between devices is encrypted with AES-128 in counter mode, using a unique session key. The system uses SRP for mutual authentication and for generating session keys that ensure Perfect Forward Secrecy. Security -BitTorrent Sync was designed with privacy and security in mind. If your devices are on the same local network, BitTorrent Sync will use your LAN for faster synchronization. We also provide such additional methods of ensuring connectivity as relay and tracker servers. The devices you setup to sync are connected directly using UDP, NAT traversal and UPnP port mapping. The data is transferred in pieces from each of the syncing devices, and BitTorrent Sync chooses the optimal algorithm to make sure you have a maximum download and upload speed during the process. This protocol is very effective for transferring large files across multiple devices, and is very similar to the powerful protocol used by applications like µTorrent and BitTorrent. P2P Protocol : BitTorrent Sync synchronizes your files using a peer-to-peer (P2P) protocol. It can sync files between devices on a local network, or between remote devices over the Internet via secure, distributed P2P technology, so in short you can setup your own cloud storage and share your files among your devices. Good news, from some time there is a new solution available: BitTorrent SyncīitTorrent Sync by BitTorrent, Inc is a proprietary peer-to-peer file synchronization tool available for Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS and BSD. Have you finish your cloud space on Dropbox, Google Drive or one of the many cloud storage providers ? Or maybe you don’t trust them and you’d prefer a solution made with your computer/vps/Server ? Maintenance and cleaning: Participants were asked what they thought about the required steps, including the difficulty with disassembling and reassembling trimmer parts during cleaning, as well as how they took care of the model overall. Setup and help: Participants were asked how easy or difficult it was for them to get started and set up the model for their needs, and how useful the instructions were. “The objective is to capture each person’s qualitative experience but also to quantify various aspects of it as well,” Ahuja says, “so that we can differentiate how well each device worked for a variety of users.” Volunteers were expected to use the beard trimmer at least twice over a period of two to four weeks, and to share their experiences and score their trimmers on the factors listed below. “Each individual was given a digital diary to share their experiences in the form of written and photo entries,” says Charu Ahuja, CR’s director of consumer experience and usability research. If your keypad’s pin layout doesn’t match the ones above, you can probe the pins to figure it out. The pin layout for most membrane keypads will look like this:įollow the diagrams below to connect the keypad to an Arduino Uno, depending on whether you have a 3X4 or 4X4 keypad: How to Find the Pinout of Your Keypad When the column pin goes HIGH again, the Arduino has found the row pin that is connected to the button:įrom the diagram above, you can see that the combination of row 2 and column 2 could only mean that the number 5 button was pressed. It does this by switching each one of the row pins HIGH, and at the same time reading all of the column pins to detect which column pin returns to HIGH:Ĥ. The Arduino now knows which column the button is in, so now it just needs to find the row the button is in. When a button is pressed, the column pin is pulled LOW since the current from the HIGH column flows to the LOW row pin:ģ. First, when no buttons are pressed, all of the column pins are held HIGH, and all of the row pins are held LOW:Ģ. The Arduino detects which button is pressed by detecting the row and column pin that’s connected to the button.ġ. The schematic for a 4X4 keypad shows how the rows and columns are connected: Pressing a button closes the switch between a column and a row trace, allowing current to flow between a column pin and a row pin. Each row and column is brought out to a single pin, for a total of 8 pins on a 4X4 keypad: Each switch in a column is connected the same way – one side of the switch is connected to all of the other switches in that column by a conductive trace. Each switch in a row is connected to the other switches in the row by a conductive trace underneath the pad. A 3X4 keypad has 4 rows and 3 columns, and a 4X4 keypad has 4 rows and 4 columns:īeneath each key is a membrane switch. The buttons on a keypad are arranged in rows and columns. It includes all of the parts, wiring diagrams, code, and step-by-step instructions for 58 different robotics and internet of things projects that are super fun to build! How Keypads Work Then you will define the pin in which you want to connect the push button. The 3-in-1 Smart Car and IOT Learning Kit from SunFounder has everything you need to learn how to master the Arduino. You will include the keyboard library to emulate a keyboard. The software that you'll need to upload the script to the board is called Arduino IDE, you can download it here. In the first step you are going to create a simple action to “copy” when you press a push button. The first thing to consider: as you will be emulating keyboard inputs, you should be careful not to leave a free keyboard action in the loop repeating and repeating itself, because you will lose control of the computer. In the setup, you will define the variables and modes that will be needed in the project the loop is the set of instructions that Arduino will be running over and over to check the status of its different inputs and outputs. If this is your first Arduino project, you should know that the basic structure of an Arduino script consists of two parts: the setup and the loop. It will be easier if you already have experience with coding, but I encourage you to learn by trial and error if this is your first approach. This tutorial will, not only guide you through the project, but it will also introduce you to Arduino in general, starting with a very simple push button as keyboard input and will teach you how to add buttons and features in the next steps.

The one textile art piece in the gallery, Diedrick Brackens’s “Stealing dark from the sky” (from intricately woven cotton and acrylic yarn) hints at a native mythological narrative tucked into an image of silhouetted figures and a pastel pattern backdrop. Is it real or a jumbo tourist-bait replica? The startled look on a vacationing family’s face leaves us wondering. Subtle subversion also sneaks into the scenery in Jonas Wood’s “Four Landscapes,” a quartet of paintings conveying the four seasons, but with the summer episode rendered tense by the presence of a large Tyrannosaurus. Art-wise, Ryan’s deceptively tidy but logic-defying composition suggests a marriage between surrealist Rene Magritte and design confounder M.C. In Jonathan Ryan’s “Mist”, an aerial perspective looking down on a garden maze, variously refers to the impulse to neatly contain nature into such diversions as human-scaled mazes made from carefully manicured vegetation. Painting’s rich history and tangle of associations can’t help but leave imprints on the medium, even when contemporary artists seek to upend or redirect past influences. “Stealing dark from the sky” by Diedrick Brackens | Credit: Courtesy But despite its massive scale, the three-panel painting is less brashly monumental than it is meditative, with landscape and garden references layered and softened by a post-post-impressionist quality reminiscent of Pierre Bonnard’s palette and eye. Whitney Bedford, also currently showing her work in the Santa Barbara Museum of Art’s Inside/Outside show in the contemporary gallery, supplies the Atkinson show’s epic centerpiece, “Veduta (Bonnard Mediterranean Morning) Triptych,” consuming one gallery wall. Most of the pieces also come equipped with agendas reframing old norms and assumptions about what landscape art is and can be. More precisely, the show offers six alternative contemporary landscape variations - the number of artists and artworks in this initial run in the two-part series.Ĭurated by the gallery director John Connelly, the selection highlights the diversity of personal artistic approaches to the time-honored culture of art celebrating landscape, seascape, and urban settings. In a city rife with artists working in the vein of traditional landscape painting, and often with considerable skill and sensitivity, the exhibition New Landscapes Part I, at SBCC’s Atkinson Gallery, stands apart and offers alternative visions. I might do it for V Collection 10 whenever it comes out just to grab some of the new stuff I've been interested in, but honestly I still have barely scratched the surface on everything that V Collection 6 came with. I've been given upgrade pricing every year for the next V Collection, and I think it's always been around $100. I know you can use the macros in AL, but haven't really needed to since I don't perform with it. I haven't looked at the macros of the Analog Lab since if I need to adjust a parameter I jump into the synth itself. Like if a sound it too harsh I can jump in and adjust the filter cutoff or an lfo rate or whatever. I really like it for the instruments and presets it came with and I really like that I can delve into the actual instruments to modify any parameter I want. That being said I ended up picking up the V Collection 6 when it was on sale for $250 just before 7 came out. They keep updating it and I enjoy that I haven't had to pay for any upgrades for it. I picked up Pigments when it was released for $80 and I agree that it's really amazing and super flexible. Clearly one is much more expensive than the other but it really depends on if you personally want to get into learning all the synth interfaces to make more and better changes to the presets or an init patch Is it overkill? It depends on you and your plans. So both have presets but VC has many more, and is "deeper" in the sense that once you spend time to learn to use the different emulatorsr in v collection you will be able to produce many more sounds or even changes to presets to get "the thing" you want in that situation. The flipside of that is that you will have to learn the synths themselves, which takes time, so V Collection is going to be something you get increasing rewards from as you take the time to learn each synth that interests you. V Collection includes many more presets, and also allows you to edit the entire patch in the proper synth interface. The macro knobs may change multiple settings at the same time, and are predetermined by arturia. Each preset in AL will have 4-5 macro knobs which will allow you to mess a bit with the sound, but you won't be able to go into the interface for the synth and make precise changes.
